Before you start
- Cut hazard from the dispenser
- Wear gloves when using the dispenser
- Read the package before using the tape
- Choose the tape for the job and check its product page and its package for the surfaces and uses it's made for.
- Apply the tape with the surface and the roll at room temperature, because in strong cold or heat tape holds less.
- The dispenser's teeth cut, so hold it by the body and keep your fingers off the edge.
- Keep tapes and dispensers out of the reach of children.
Prepare the surface
Step 1:
Clean the surface
Remove dust, grease and old adhesive with a clean cloth. On smooth surfaces you can use isopropyl alcohol.
Step 2:
Let it dry
Wait until the surface is completely dry, because tape doesn't stick well to moisture.
Step 3:
Test where it won't show
On paint or on delicate or porous surfaces, first try a small piece somewhere hidden.
Apply the tape
Step 1:
Cut the length you need
Measure and cut with the dispenser or with scissors, without stretching the tape as you cut it.
Step 2:
Lay it without stretching
Start at one end and lay it down toward the other, without stretching it or touching the adhesive with your fingers.
Step 3:
Press firmly
Run your hand, a squeegee or a roller along the whole length with firm pressure to push out the air and get all the adhesive in contact.
With double-sided tapes, stick one side first and press it, peel the liner without touching the adhesive and join the parts on the first try, without shifting them. Give the bond time before putting weight on it.
Remove and store
Step 1:
Peel it slowly
Pull the tape back over itself at a low angle, slowly. Remove masking tape as soon as you finish or within the time its package says.
Step 2:
Store the roll
In its bag or in a box, away from sun, heat and dust, so the edges stay clean.
